Car price is not always the amount you finance
A down payment, trade-in balance and financed charges can make the loan principal different from the advertised vehicle price. Build a simple funding statement before estimating payments.
Auto loan calculator →Identify what is being financed
The auto-loan calculator expects the actual principal, not necessarily the showroom price. Depending on the agreement, taxes, registration costs or optional products may be financed or paid separately. Read the itemized offer and avoid adding a charge a second time if it is already included in the agreed price. The calculator does not decide which local taxes apply.
Reconcile a purchase example
Suppose the agreed vehicle price is 25,000, financed taxes and charges are 2,000 and the cash down payment is 4,000. With no trade-in or other adjustments, principal is 25,000 + 2,000 − 4,000 = 23,000. Enter 23,000 into the loan tool. All amounts must use the same currency; selecting a country does not convert the purchase price into another currency.
Keep ownership costs outside the loan estimate
Insurance, fuel and maintenance still need their own budget. For a trade-in, establish the value remaining after the old loan is settled. Negative equity can increase new borrowing rather than function as a down payment. Compare the financed amount and total repayment alongside the monthly figure, and do not assume every vehicle or jurisdiction uses the same tax or financing rules.
