An overnight shift from 22:00 to 06:00: how many hours is that?
When the ending clock time is earlier than the starting time, this tool treats it as the following day. Crossing midnight does not create negative work hours.
Work hours →Calculate the elapsed shift first
From 22:00 to midnight is two hours, and from midnight to 06:00 is another six. The total is eight hours. Entering a 30-minute break reduces the calculated duration to 7.5 hours. Use the 24-hour clock: 10:00 means ten in the morning, not ten at night.
Identical clock times have a specific meaning
On this site, 09:00 to 09:00 means zero duration, not an automatic 24-hour shift. The tool is intended for a simple shift shorter than a full day. A multi-day task needs separate records or a system that accepts complete timestamps. Clock times alone cannot tell the calculator how many dates have passed.
Duration is not a payroll decision
Entering a break subtracts it mathematically; that does not establish that it may legally be unpaid. Paid rest periods, overtime, night premiums and daylight-saving rules need separate consideration under the applicable arrangements. The salary calculator can estimate ordinary hourly earnings but does not apply labor law. Preserve the original shift and break records so a payroll calculation can use the appropriate rules later.
