300 cm by 250 cm is 7.5 m², not 750 m²
Area conversions square the length conversion factor. Converting the lengths first is often the safest way to avoid a hundredfold error.
Rectangle area →Convert before multiplying
The rectangle tool accepts metres. Convert 300 cm to 3 m and 250 cm to 2.5 m, then multiply to get 7.5 m². Entering 300 and 250 directly would tell the tool the sides were hundreds of metres long. A correct multiplication of incorrectly labeled inputs still produces the wrong physical quantity.
Why the divisor is ten thousand
There are 100 centimetres in a metre, so a square metre contains 100×100 = 10,000 square centimetres. The original area is 75,000 cm²; dividing by 10,000 gives 7.5 m². Dividing only by 100 is a length conversion applied incorrectly to an area. The same principle explains why one square kilometre equals one million square metres.
Do a physical reasonableness check
A 3 m by 2.5 m rectangle should fit in a modest room, so hundreds of square metres would be implausible. Mixed units need conversion too: do not multiply a centimetre width by a metre length and label the answer square metres. Keep the measured precision when converting, and use the conversion tool for unfamiliar units before entering the geometry calculator. The perimeter for this example is 11 metres, offering another independent check on the converted side lengths.
