If calories change but macro percentages stay fixed, what happens to grams?
With fixed percentages, each nutrient amount changes in proportion to total energy. Holding one gram target fixed describes a different plan.
Macro calculator →Compare two energy totals
Use an illustrative allocation of 50% carbohydrate, 20% protein and 30% fat. At 2000 kcal, the amounts are 250 g, 100 g and approximately 66.7 g. At 2400 kcal, they become 300 g, 120 g and 80 g. Total energy rises by 20%, and each gram amount rises by the same proportion. The ratio calculator can check that scaling.
A fixed gram target changes the percentage
If protein remains at 100 g while total energy becomes 2400 kcal, its 400 kcal contribution represents about 16.67%, not 20%. You cannot assume both the original percentage and the original gram amount remain unchanged when the total changes. Decide whether you are comparing a percentage-based allocation or a fixed-gram target first.
Do not confuse a recalculation with a recommendation
These examples explain the numerical relationship only. Whether intake should change depends on individual circumstances and the purpose of the nutrition plan. This tool converts the percentages supplied; it does not automatically design meals or assess food quality. Establish an appropriate energy basis separately, then review the allocation in context rather than accepting a larger or smaller result as an instruction.
