A better exchange rate but less money received? Include the fees
Compare the exchange rate together with fixed charges, percentage charges and possible recipient-side deductions. One attractive headline number does not establish the best outcome.
Currency converter →Identify where each charge is taken
A fee may be deducted from the amount converted, added to the sender’s payment or charged by a receiving institution. Decide whether you are comparing the same total budget or the same transfer principal. Otherwise two recipient amounts may reflect different sender outlays and cannot be ranked fairly. Reference conversion alone does not reveal those charges.
Compare an equal-budget example
With a total budget of 1,000 A, provider X deducts a 10 A fee and converts the remaining 990 at 1 A = 1.10 B, delivering 1,089 B. Provider Y has no separate fee but uses 1.08, delivering 1,080 B. In this simplified example X delivers 9 B more despite charging an explicit fee. The rates and currency symbols are invented and exclude receiving-side charges and taxes.
Obtain the actual transaction quote
Check the expected recipient amount, total charges, timing and quote validity before sending money. The exchange calculator supplies a reference conversion rather than importing each provider’s pricing. A no-fee advertisement does not guarantee the lowest total cost when the exchange rate differs. Applicable disclosure and consumer-protection rules also depend on the transaction and jurisdiction; the example does not assume the same legal protections apply worldwide.
