What date is fourteen days before a deadline? Count backward with a negative offset
Backward planning starts with a fixed deadline and subtracts a defined number of calendar days. Keep working-day rules separate.
Add days to date →Work through a backward calculation
For a deadline of 2026-10-31, enter −14 days. The result is 2026-10-17. Checking October 17 to October 31 in the date-difference tool returns fourteen days, confirming the direction. A negative offset moves the calendar backward; it is not the same thing as entering an invalid date.
Clarify whether the deadline itself is counted
Fourteen full calendar days before a deadline differs from counting the deadline as day one and then stepping backward. That convention can introduce a one-day difference. Use the precise instruction for the task. For a legal or administrative deadline, a casual phrase is not enough to establish the governing counting rule.
Leave room for the actual process
A date tool does not know mailing times, approval stages or office closures. If preparation requires fourteen working days, plan with the relevant business calendar rather than treating two weeks as fourteen working days. Record both the deadline and the calculated preparation date, and allow practical contingency where appropriate. The reverse date-difference check validates the arithmetic but does not guarantee that the preparation schedule is sufficient.
